An eco-responsible wedding? What are the best practices?

You are sensitive to the responsible, ecological and local nature of your wedding? We have put together for you some ideas found on the web to fulfill this responsibility! Indeed, the wedding is a major source of expenses, so you might as well limit the costs by avoiding buying some small things that will never be reused afterwards and choose to invest your money for a sustainable cause.

It starts with your wedding dress…

And yes ladies, there is a lasting way to choose your wedding dress. There are many choices available to you:

  • Why not reuse your mom’s or grandma’s wedding dress? With a few adjustments at the dressmaker’s in terms of style or shape, this dress could fit you and will carry a nice symbolism in the eyes of your family.
  • What if you chin your dress? There are fripperies that resell second-hand dresses still in good condition and at low prices.
  • Would you rather rent a dress than buy a new one? Finally, we all wonder why buy a dress if it will never be worn a second time. Renting a dress and letting others use it can also be interesting from a budget point of view.
  • You have the soul and talent of a dressmaker? Select noble fabrics and make it yourself!

Choosing a caterer who cares about the local character of its products

The origin of the products served during your wedding is very important in the “eco-friendly” theme. If you hire a caterer who certifies that they use local products in every dish they offer, the local economy will thank you.

We have in our list of caterers, some whom are concerned about choosing fresh and regional products, do not hesitate to ask them about it, if this value is something important to you. It may even help you make your choice when you receive offers.

Choose a local wine, such as ours, if you are getting married at our place, as it is freshly produced from our vineyards, or an organic wine for your wedding service. We have superb local wines, so you might as well take advantage of them and represent the region where you have chosen to get married.

A 100% recycled decoration

The basic and simple thing you can do: avoid buying decorative elements that you will never use again. Prefer a simple, uncluttered and natural decoration. Or even better, recycle objects by rearranging them a little: it’s the big trend and you can create incredible things from little… Here are a few ideas and ideas found on the net or at home :

Gifts to plant or taste for your guests!

We quickly tend to want to buy small items with our initials and wedding date that our guests may never use again. Choose gifts for the gourmets to enjoy (homemade jams, local honey pots) or spice or herb tea bags to use at home.

A great idea: offer a plant or seeds to plant, to play the sustainability card to the end!

Make a donation and accept that we already have a lot!

If you care about a charity, why not encourage your guests to make a donation, instead of buying you household items that you may not need.

Recycled paper… or no paper at all?

For your invitations, use recycled, biodegradable or seeded paper (something grows when you throw it away).

The computer is there for you: why not make a nice design by email for your save the date and invitations. Create a WordPress website containing the information your guests will need and for easy RSVP management.

Table plan and place cards: zero waste or almost zero waste ideas to be reproduced…

The little extras

Choose a place where you can do everything in one place, such as Portes des Iris, in order to reduce journeys and therefore CO2 footprints and save you time as well…

Encourage carpooling among your guests or hire a bus service.

Organize your honeymoon near you!
